The Phones/DIDs module depends on Phone Models and Phones under less common. It was designed to help you track and cover your landline phones, VoIP phones, conference room phones, etc. as well as cell phones / smart phones that you might give out to your employees.
This of course is a pretty big field / variety of different numbers, models etc. – how ever – you should be able to find all fields necessary to track each of them as good and detailed as possibly.
Start with creating the Phone Models that you need to document. Next you create the actual phone, what would be the physical device. Finally, you either use and existing or create a new DID / Phone Number and use the previously created Phone as reference in order to combine the number with the physical device and reference the employee, IP address etc.
